Matthias Elger

Matthias Elger Matthias Elger was born in Görlitz in 1955. His father was a cantor by profession and his mother a soprano. Subsequently, he enjoyed intensive musical education since his early childhood. He studied Piano and Conducting at the Conservatory of Music, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, in Leipzig. Thereafter, he worked as a piano accompanist at the Opera House in Leipzig as well as a freelance musician.

Later he studied Church Music. Since 1990 he holds the position of Cantor at the Erlöserkirche in Berlin - Lichtenberg. From 1994-2001 he was Principal Conductor of the Berliner Konzertchor, which enabled him to perform most of the famous symphonic works with chorus. He has performed at renowned concert venues in Berlin such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Gethsemane Kirche and the Konzerthaus-Berlin.

Since 2008 he holds the title of Kirchenmusikdirektor.
